These clinics offer focused instruction on advanced skills and techniques, giving sailors the opportunity to further strengthen their abilities, build lasting confidence, and enjoy specialized training in a supportive environment.

Learn to Sail Classes

This introductory sailing course is designed to teach the fundamental sailing techniques you need to confidently and comfortably enjoy our fleet of Ideal 18s in fair weather conditions. Adaptive boats and equipment are available upon request.

Intermediate Sailing Classes

This course is the next step after the introductory sailing course, designed to expand your skills through added instruction in sail trim, boat handling, and essential techniques for greater confidence on the water. Click below to view upcoming classes.

Learn to Race Classes

These classes are for experienced sailors looking to take the next step and begin racing our fleet of Ideal 18s. Instruction covers spinnaker rigging, hoists, douses, and techniques for confidently incorporating these skills into effective racing tactics.

Adaptive Sailing

The Sailing Center is a fully accessible facility, offering the opportunity to sail to everyone, regardless of ability. Wheelchair-accessible floating docks are equipped with Hoyer lifts to assist sailors in and out of adaptive boats with safety and ease.

Youth Programs

Explore Our Youth Sailing Programs

Harbor Mice Sailing

Ages: 5—7

Designed for children ages 5–7, these courses provide a fun and engaging first introduction to the lifelong sport of sailing.

Optimist Sailing

Ages: 8—13

These courses offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced/racing instruction for children ages 8–13 who are ready to build their sailing skills.

420 Sailing

Ages: 13—16

Our 420 sailing programs are specially designed for ages 13–16 and range from beginner through intermediate to advanced/racing courses.

All Day Youth Sailing Camps

Ages: 5—7 and 8—12

Offered exclusively during the summer months, our all-day camps are perfect for students looking to dive into a wide variety of watersports.

Fishing Camps

Ages: 6—13

Our fishing camps teach kids how to catch the big ones, offered during the summer and on various weekends throughout the year.

Youth Racing Team

Shaping Champions Since 1919

The St. Petersburg Yacht Club’s Youth Racing Team has been a leader in competitive sailing since 1919, earning every major Optimist Dinghy title in North America and continuing its success in Lasers, 420s, and larger boats. Alumni include Collegiate All-Americans, Olympic medalists, National and World Champions, and Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year. Additional Options for Members

Enhance your membership with optional add-ons that provide more ways to learn, race, and enjoy time on the water.

Spinnaker packages give members access to spinnaker equipment for Ideal 18s during free sailing hours. Youth, Individual, and Family members may add a package to their account for $100 per year.

Sonar packages may be added to Individual or Family memberships, offering access to a larger and more technical sailboat than the Ideal 18. A guided check-out with an instructor is included and required to become rated, and spinnaker use is also included once rated. Sonars must be reserved by members via phone or email, and a usage fee will apply.
